Spangle / OBSG
Celebrating his ninth year as the frontman of his band, Lee Hee Moon has forged a new and unique presence in music through his use of Gyeonggi minyo (folk music of the Gyeoggi area) to explore the contemporaneity of traditional music. The visionary vocalist has proven himself as an irreplaceable and distinctive artist, offering a new alternative to the landscape of traditional Korean folk songs in works like Ssing Ssing, Korean Men, ObangSin, and Gangnam Oasis, for which he has collaborated closely with musicians spanning diverse genres. When asked about what his band means to him, Lee replies, “It’s like a sparkling, sexy spangle.”With his second official full album SPANGLE, Lee Hee Moon takes us on a musical journey that transcends boundaries. Built upon a foundation of traditional Korean folk songs, the album seamlessly navigates through a wide-ranging array of genres, including jitterbug, pop, dance, rock, and blues. It stands as a psychedelic NEO Minyo masterpiece, skillfully blending an unexpected mix of musical genres into a cohesive artwork of traditional folk music, much like a canvas of vibrant yet singular oil paint colors.
