-CEO of the Lee Hee Moon Company and art director
-Certified trainee of National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 57 Gyeonggi Minyo (Folk Songs of the Gyeonggi Area)
Lee Hee-moon is a certified trainee of National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 57 Gyeonggi Minyo (Folk Songs of the Gyeonggi Area) and the CEO of the Lee Hee Moon Company. Lee has firmly established his own realm of music, which is based on Gyeonggi Minyo, through his audacious musical endeavors and relentless efforts to realize the contemporaneity of traditional art.
Named after and led by the artist, the Lee Hee Moon Company is a group of artists from diverse artistic backgrounds such as vocal music, instrumental music, and dance. Using Gyeonggi Minyo, a treasure trove of a vast repertoire of music, as its main motif, the music group attempts to fuse together different musical genres, bringing traditional Korean vocal music, which had been overlooked in Korean artistic circles, onto the front stage and presenting the audience with a new way of listening to Korean folk tunes. Against this artistic backdrop, the group has been steadily creating a new repertoire of music.
In conjunction with musicians from various genres, Lee is continuing to reinterpret the folk songs of both Gyeonggi and the western provinces as well as their traditional styles. Through diverse musical experimentation, where tradition meets new styles and is dismantled and reborn, the artist is presenting a new path forward for traditional Korean music. He is also studying ways to expand the reach of the genre by making performances available through the video medium. This wealth of artistic experiences accrued since his debut has made him a one-of-a-kind, unparalleled artist.
Yet, his repertoire of activities is not limited to music. In recent years, he published Deep Salon Directory, a tome detailing the production process of the Deep Salon trilogy, his Gyeonggi Minyo project, and held book signings. This is Lee’s first book.
