This is the second story in the "Gangnam" series, a trilogy depicting the life of singer Lee Hee-moon up to his twenties before he started traditional Korean folk music (minyo).
In the late 1980s, during the excitement of the 1988 Olympics and the prestigious Gangnam school district, a quiet and unremarkable boy closed his door due to family deficiencies. His narrative changes 180 degrees after he starts liking a big-eyed female singer on TV.“I want to become a singer like her too.” Lee Hee-moon, a singer continuing the vein of Gyeonggi minyo, confesses his disco adolescence and city pop sentiments. Following the birth pangs of [Gangnam Oasis], he now presents the growing pains of [Gangnam Rainbow]. In [Gangnam Rainbow], Lee Hee-moon showcases new songs in various styles such as deep funk, house, city pop, and ballads. Can we call it Lee Hee-moon’s own pop music? Has he decided to temporarily set aside minyo?
