Deep Love trilogy
The Deep Love trilogy is a three-part performance produced and presented over three years starting in 2016.
Part 1. “Deep Love”, part 2. “Sagyechuk” and part 3. “Minyo Samcheolli” together showcase a musical storytelling of the culture and history of Gyeonggi minyo folk music, accompanied by Gyeonggi minyo and japga songs.
“Deep Love” refers to a stage which served as a rite of passage for sorikkun performers from the Gyeonggi region on their way to becoming masters, as well as sarangbang, a space where they were invited to perform for people with discerning ears for the solace of mind they would provide.
This series is significant in that it reenacts the traditional space where people enjoyed traditional music in the past. Through the use of traditional art to summon things lost, to witness things that are disappearing, and to imagine things that could be lost, “Deep Love” affords offers the opportunity to look back on the past and expose distortions or hidden truths in modern and contemporary history.

깊은舍廊(사랑) 시리즈
2016년부터 3년에 걸쳐 제작하고 발표한 시리즈 공연 깊은舍廊(사랑)은 1부 깊은사랑, 2부 사계축(四契軸), 3부 민요삼천리(民謠三千里)까지 총 3부작으로 나눠 발표한 시리즈공연이다. 경기민요의 문화와 역사를 경기민요, 잡가와 함께 스토리텔링 형식으로 보여준다.
‘깊은사랑’이란 경기소리꾼들이 전통 소리를 나누면서 명창이 되기 위한 통과의례처럼 여겨졌던 무대인데, 무엇보다 귀명창들이 소리꾼을 불러 소리를 청해 들으며 마음을 달랬던 공간이다.
깊은사랑’ 시리즈는 전통소리를 즐기던 공간문화를 재현한다는 데에 큰 의미를 두었다. 전통예술을 축으로 사라져버린 것의 소환, 사라져가고 있는 것의 목격, 사라져버릴 것에 대한 상상을 통해 역사를 재조명하고 그 속에 왜곡되거나 숨겨진 진실을 드러내어 근현대를 돌아볼 수 있는 기회를 제시했다.

#1 Gipeunsarang - Journey to the disappearing tradition
It recreated the 1970s's 'deep love', a traditional culture of Gyeonggi folk songs that has now disappeared. The theme of the journey of Lee Heemoon, a Gyeonggi-do singer who crosses tradition and present, is that the audience will be accompanied by a ghost of the day.
#1. 깊은사랑 - 사라져가는 전통으로의 동행
지금은 사라져버린 경기민요의 전통문화인 1970년대의 ‘깊은사랑’을 재현했다. 전통과 현재를 횡단하는 경기소리꾼 이희문의 여정에 관객들은 오늘날의 귀명창이 되어 동행한다는 주제를 가진다.
#2. Sagyechuk - The heritage and spirit of male sorikkun performers seen in Sagyechuk performers
“Sagyechuk” refers to traditional japga songs sung by male sorikkun performers in Seoul’s Sagyechuk area. Unlike in the past when male sorikkun were the mainstream, female sorikkun are now the leaders in carrying on traditional music. Lee, who is struggling on the fringes as a male sorikkun, hangs on to the spirit and tradition of Sagyechuk performers and portrays on stage the life of a male sorikkun in his own way.
#2. 사계축 : 사계축소리꾼을 통해 보는 남자소리꾼의 뿌리와 정신
전통소리 중 ‘잡가’라는 갈래의 소리를 기반으로 한다. 과거와는 달리 여자소리꾼이 중심이 되어 전통의 계승을 이끄는 오늘날, 전통 그 언저리에서 고군분투하고 있는 남자소리꾼 이희문이 사계축소리꾼의 뿌리와 정신을 이어받아 그만의 방식으로 남자소리꾼의 삶을 그려본다는 주제를 다룬다.
#3. Minyo Samcheolli - Gyeonggi minyo and the lives of female sorikkun in modern times
This part illustrates Lee’s journey as a male sorikkun who had to learn, with his body, the texture and techniques of the peculiar sounds of traditional music that were optimized to a woman’s physique. Also featured are the lives of female performers who championed the tradition. The performance starts from the doubts Lee had as a male sorikkun and looks back on the roots and history of the feminized Gyeonggi minyo.
#3. 민요삼천리 - 근대화시대 경기민요와 여자소리꾼의 삶
여성화된 소리의 질감과 기교를 남자의 신체로 체화했던 이희문이 남자소리꾼으로서 걸어온 여정을 그리는 동시에 그 바탕에 자리 잡고 있는 여자소리꾼들의 삶을 그린다. 남자소리꾼으로서 이희문이 가졌던 의구심에서 출발해 여성화된 경기민요의 뿌리와 역사를 되짚어 본 공연.
